Exeter Market Auctioneers report a similar entry of 1794 sheep offered with a 95 % clearance reflecting a strong trade and keen demand throughout. Top price female was the Female Champion “Poorton L125” from Messrs Fook Bros of Bridport selling at 700 gns. Many congratulations to all prize winners and in particular to Tom Wright of Ballymoney, Co Antrim Northern Ireland who won the best pen of five or more ram lambs and his 1st prize ram lamb “Ballytaggart Nirvana” sold for 2800 gns. to T G Wilson of Pickering,Yorkshire with the Ballytaggart pen of six averaging £1286.25. Messrs R & R Hole of Sherborne sold their second prize ram lamb “Sherborne Never Say Die” at 2200 gns. to Mr David Rossiter.

The Huish flock from David Rossiter sold a ram lamb “Huish Napoleon” at 2100 gns. being purchased by Mr G Cubitt. Top price Shearling ram was 1000 gns for “North Covert Lloyd” from Mr Nick Burrington whose pen of three shearlings averaged £969.50. The best horned ram exhibit was won by Mr Norman Hammond of County Tyrone, Northern Ireland.

Top pen prices were :-

W & K Carson,Ballymena, Northern Ireland 7 Ram Lambs averaging £1081.50
NJ Burrington, Exeter, Devon 3 Shearling Rams averaging £969.50
DW Rossiter, Kingsbridge,Devon 7 Ram Lambs averaging £927.00


An excellent attendance from all corners of the British Isles ensured that the Breeding Females met a very strong trade with prices generally up £30 to £40 per head on last year. Top price of the day went to the day’s Reserve Champions at £245 for a pen of Registered Hoggets from Messrs Fooks Bros of Bridport. The day’s Champion pen was a pen of Registered Ewe Lambs from Mr R Sizmur of Okehampton that later sold for £198.

The Unregistered section met equally strong demand selling to £208 for a pen of Hoggets from Mr I R Prouse of Holsworthy. Unregistered Ewe Lambs sold to £108, twice, firstly for Mr D W J Mingo of Honiton and secondly for a pen from Mr A A Hosegood of Crediton. Unregistered Ewes met solid demand and topped at £135 for a pen of 6T/FM from Mr A Habberfield of Wiveliscombe.

Crossbreds also met keen demand and sold to £152 for two pens of Dorset cross Mule Hoggets from Mr D Elworthy of Umberleigh.
